GORGEOUS UTAH QUICK STOP: ALBION BASIN & CECRET LAKE

Max and Cindy stroll down a dirt path, holding hands, into Albion Basin's colorful valley.

Upon entering the Albion Basin, one can’t help but sing to themselves, “the hills are aliiiive, with the sound of music.”

This is a great place to hike for people of all experience and fitness levels. Stroll through lightly wooded areas and rolling hills covered in wildflowers, up to Cecret Lake!

This stop was a quick and highly rewarding addition, and we’d highly recommend it to anyone in the Salt Lake/Park City area!

The TRIP

Max sets out down the path to Cecret Lake, with Sugarloaf Mountain in the distance.

The trail starts in a lightly wooded area with plenty of shade and a view down the basin.

Cindy looks out over Albion Basin, UT from a viewpoint off the road.

The hills are light and easy to traverse, until the narrow switchbacks up a steep and rocky climb to the lake. This is a short distance but does mark the only somewhat challenging part of the route.

Sparse woodlands cover rolling hills behind the placid waters of Cecret Lake

The lake is small and serene! Sugarloaf Mountain sits behind it with Devil’s Castle just to the east.

The clear water reveals small fish, and if you hop out along the stone jetty you’ll likely find a number of salamander larvae bathing in the shallows (they may have been axolotl, we’re not amphibian experts).
